Class Types

Beginner//Fundamentals – Perfect for beginners learning the basics or Senior students to improve their fundamentals.  A class focussing on the fundamentals of jiu-jitsu usually with an emphasis on self-defense. Each class starts with a short Jiu-jitsu movements-based warm-up. We then work on our basic positions and techniques, learning how they keep us safe and how to respond to various possible attacks. We begin to chain these moves together and slowly increase the resistance as required into different partner drills. Lastly for those with sufficient experience or rank, we do low-intensity sparring to reinforce the positions and techniques learnt. Beginners will continue to drill with partners to reinforce their learning until class ends.

General – Suitable for beginners to advanced students. A mixture of fundamentals techniques looking at a wider scope of jiu-jitsu, we may spend one or more weeks working a certain position before moving onto another, learning how to defend and attack from the top and bottom of it and transition to other positions. Similar in format to the beginner/fundamentals with more flexibility for advanced belts to spar together at mid-level intensity.

Teenager – Run at the same time as the General class. Teenagers work together or with experienced senior students when available. They will follow the same topic as the General class with some modifications to focus more on the beginner//fundamental topics emphasising more self-defense aspects and anti-bullying principles.

Advanced class – After a couple of weeks all are welcome to attend but this class assumes some previous knowledge of the fundamentals. Perfect for those wanting to look at jiu-jitsu sparring specific strategies and techniques and get more rolling time. More time is given to sparring and techniques dealing specifically with sparring.

Sparring/Drilling – 30min of rounds working with partners to either drill or spar depending on experience level.

*Open Mat – Invite only class, please contact Brian. Sparring limited to those with the required experience.
